John “J.P.” Olynyk– Board of Education Candidate

I’ve proudly called Tolland home for the past 27 years, moving here in 1998 to work for Pratt & Whitney. With a lifelong passion for education, a background in engineering and program management, and a career that spans both industry and public service, I’m ready to apply my experience to help strengthen our schools.

Highlights: 

• Aerospace engineer and former program manager at Pratt & Whitne
• Retired federal employee with expertise in budget, policy, and oversight at the Department of Defense
• Adjunct professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, teaching Technical Project Management
• Union steward and VP, bringing both management and labor perspectives
• Father of two sons, both graduates of a regional magnet school with homeschool roots
• Holds master’s degrees in engineering, business, and manufacturing quality

​I’m running for the Board of Education to bring analytical thinking, fiscal responsibility, and a non-partisan approach to improving efficiency and transparency in our school system. Tolland’s students deserve our best efforts—and our taxpayers expect no less.
